Central Florida Sierra Club Group Group Receives National Sierra Club Award

SAN FRANCISCO – Sept. 23, 2000 – The Central Florida Group of the Sierra Club was among those receiving national recognition from the Sierra Club this fall.

The group received the national Sierra Club’s Denny and Ida Wilcher Award, which honors outstanding achievement in the area of membership and/or fundraising. The group received the award for its fundraising efforts to protect the Wekiva River.

The Sierra Club, which was founded in 1892 by John Muir, is the country’s oldest and largest grassroots environmental organization. It currently has more than 600,000 members.
