Two Rocky Mountain Chapter Members Receive National Sierra Club Awards

SAN FRANCISCO - Sept. 15, 2001 - Two Rocky Mountain Chapter members were among those receiving national awards from the Sierra Club this year.

Chapter Chair Greg Casini received the club's Susan E. Miller award, which recognizes outstanding contributions to the organization at the chapter level.

Casini was elected chair of the Rocky Mountain Chapter in 1999. Since then, he has helped guide the chapter through the process of developing a new strategic plan and helped implement a statewide priority conservation campaign on sprawl. He also helped improve fundraising and helped overhaul the chapter newsletter.

"Greg's contributions in leadership and management of the Rocky Mountain Chapter have created major strides in our working together as a chapter and in the chapter's visibility in Colorado," said Chapter Vice Chair Peggy Malchow. "As a result of Greg's work and leadership, the Sierra Club in Colorado is now recognized as a respected force in the state legislature and the Governor's office."

Casini was recently elected chair of the national Sierra Club's Organizational Effectiveness Committee.

The Chapter newsletter, Peak & Prairie, which is edited by Sandy Nervig, received the Club's Newsletter Award. Under Nervig's leadership, the newsletter has undergone a visual as well as an editorial transformation in the past year.
