About the Bust

Title: The Inspiration

Artist: Will Pettee

Dimensions: 6 - 1/2 " tall

Weight: Approx. 2 lbs.

Material: Cold-Cast Bronze (a sculpture compound of powdered bronze and resins). Patinas and wax are applied to protect its finish. Mounted on a hardwood base.

The Idea

The sculptor, William Pettee, explains his inspiration for creating this Muir Bust, "The Inspiration" - (Bust 2 of 2), as follows:

John Muir at age 52 (1890)

Depicts him later in life when Yosemite became a National Park. Two years later he founded the Sierra Club.

The sale of Pettee's John Muir sculptures is going directly toward funding the "Mountain Muir" sculpture for the John Muir National Historic Site. Also, a portion of each sale is donated to the Sierra Club.
