Daniel Muir

• Daniel Muir was John Muir's father. He was born in Manchester, England, and married Muir's mother, Ann Gilrye in 1833 in Dunbar, Scotland.

• John Muir had seven brothers and sisters. One brother was also named "Daniel."

• Daniel Muir took his family to Wisconsin to build a farm in 1849.

• Daniel Muir is known as being a hard task-master to his family, in particular John. See Muir's The Story of My Boyhood and Youth.

• Daniel was buried in Elmwood Cemetery in 1885 in Kansas City, Missouri. A new headstone was installed in 2004. See Daniel Muir Gravesite.

• John Muir wrote an Obituary of his father in 1885.
