Harold W. Wood, Jr.

• Government attorney, Sierra Club activist, author, volunteer webmaster.

• After reading John Muir's books in junior high in the mid-sixties, Wood joined the Sierra Club and has been active in it from the early 1970's to the present.

• Co-founded in 1994, and since 1996 is Volunteer Webmaster for the John Muir Exhibit website

• Chair of the Sierra Club John Muir Education Team, which among other projects publishes the John Muir Day Study Guide and related Lesson Plans for teachers.

• Available as a public speaker on John Muir generally, including illustrated presentations, including: "John Muir's Continuing Inspiration," "John Muir Around the World," "John Muir and the Animal Kingdom," and "John Muir in India." He is also available for workshops to discuss the John Muir in education (including the John Muir Study Guide and History Day), John Muir in general, or other Muir-related topics such as the California State Quarter.

• A founding member, chair for four years, and board member (August, 2001-August, 2007), of the grassroots campaign organization Restore Hetch Hetchy which seeks a win-win solution to restoring John Muir's beloved "second Yosemite" while providing water and power to Bay Area cities. Wood now serves on the Advisory Committee of Restore Hetch Hetchy.

• Chair and webmaster of Sierra Club LeConte Memorial Lodge Committee, which oversees the Club's historic stone-crafted building and educational program in Yosemite Valley.

• Webmaster of Sierra Club's Hetch Hetchy Restoration website and the Restore Hetch Hetchy website for many years.

• Webmaster for the John Muir Global Network, an Internet Portal to websites related to John Muir.

• Webmaster for the Sierra Club's Sequoia Task Force, and webmaster for a local group in Tulare County, Sequoia Wild Heritage Project.

• Past ExComm member, Global Warming Chair, and Webmaster for Sierra Club Mineral King Group, and webmaster for Kern-Kaweah Chapter.

• Webmaster for the UU Fellowship of Visalia, and chair of its Green Sanctuary Program.

• Wood has authored many publications on environmental topics, including Earthkeeper Hero: John Muir, and frequent pieces for the University of the Pacific's John Muir Newsletter. He has been a presenter at the last several John Muir Conferences sponsored by the John Muir Center for Environmental Studies.

• He has received several awards from local and national environmental organizations, including the year 2000 Friend of the Oak Award from the Visalia Beautification Committee for his efforts on the Oak Tree Preservation Ordinance; the 2000 Sierra Cup Award from the Sierra Club Kern Kaweah Chapter; and in 2000 he was the recipient of the national Sierra Club's "Special Achievement Award." He received the John Muir Association's John Muir Conservation Award in 1996.

• Wood is married to Janet Wood, author of the Sierra Club's John Muir Science Lesson Plans. She is also a volunteer NASA/JPL Solar System Ambassador.
