S. Hall Young
- A
Presbyterian missionary in Alaska.
- Young met John Muir in 1879 and accompanied Muir on several of his Alaskan adventures. It was Young's dog, Stickeen, that later became the subject of Muir's most famous
dog story.
- Young wrote of Muir, "I sat at his feet, and at the feet of his spirit I still sit, a student, absorbed, surrendered."
- Young
wrote a book, Alaska Days With John Muir, published the year after Muir's death, in which he tells about their adventures together, including how Muir saved his life while mountain climbing.
