    LETTERS TO THE EDITOR

Landscapes and Invisible Lines
Editor:
Hurrah for your focus on wilderness in the May 1998 issue of The Planet. I was, however, surprised to read the lament that Idaho and Montana have never had a statewide wilderness bill. Actually, as pointed out in the Legislative Scorecard on page 2 of the same issue, the Sierra Club supports a regional, ecosystem wilderness bill for the Northern Rockies -- H.R. 1425, the Northern Rockies Ecosystem Protection Act.

Wilderness and the species that depend upon it donít stop at state boundaries. Our approach to wilderness protection, and how we think and talk about it, should reflect this natural reality. Maybe the next roundup can focus on the landscapes rather than the political boundaries. We have to start sometime.

Cover to Cover
Editor:
The April issue of The Planet is exceptional. First time Iíve read it cover to cover. I especially appreciate the One-Minute Activist and the Legislative Scorecard. Iíll pay more attention from now on.
