Perils Amid Progress: Genetically Engineered Food by Marion Appel ( is a shocking look at the hazards of genetically engineered foods. Questioning the safety of bioengineered crops like the soybeans being sprayed here, Appel shows testimony from scientists who have serious reservations about genetically modified crops and who reveal corporate attempts to cover up evidence of its dangers. The most dramatic accusation is that Fox News executives, pressured by Monsanto, tried to air a slanted version of a report on bovine growth hormone and fired the writers when they objected.
