Where the Caribou Roam
With power in the Senate passing to anti-environmental Republicans, the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge is once again being threatened. "Any new energy bill would include ANWR," promised an aide to Senator Pete Domenici (R-N.M.), the likely head of the Energy and Natural Resources Subcommitte.
Without wilderness protection, the political issues surrounding the Arctic Refuge are as timeless as its landscape. In Sierra's July/August 2000, issue, Senior Editor Reed McManus reported straight from the land of the caribou.
