FRONTIERLAND

Pronghorn could soon be stumbling over pipelines and wellheads in a huge, otherworldly expanse of southwestern Wyoming. The Bureau of Land Management is now accepting public comment on the fate of the Jack Morrow Hills, a 600,000-acre portion of the 4.5-million-acre Red Desert full of wilderness, Native American sacred sites, and historic pioneer trails.

Wilderness and cultural preservation aren’t on the BLM’s mind, however; even its "conservation alternative" allows increased oil and gas development.

TAKE ACTION You can help defend the Red Desert by sending the BLM an official comment through the Club’s Wyoming Chapter at www.wyoming.sierraclub.org, or write to the BLM care of the chapter at 247 Coffeen Ave., Sheridan, WY 82801.
