Walrus

Walrus need stable sea-ice platforms stretching out into shallow water areas from which to dive in search of food. Retreating ice, however, is opening up waters thousands of feet deep, making it extremely difficult to find food and forcing mothers to abandon their young. Melting ice and changing seasons are also making walrus travel long distances from sea to congregate on small pieces of the mainland, creating competition for food and leaving them susceptible to hunting.
