A MESSAGE ABOUT THE YEAR
I proudly invite you to explore our first-ever Sierra Club Annual Report! In 2022, we laid fertile soil and planted deep roots that will ground us as we grow a stronger movement together. I hope you feel as empowered as I do reading reflections from our inspiring leaders and incredible colleagues.
As the Sierra Club’s first managing director, a large part of my focus this year was building our foundation for lasting transformational change. I’m ready to partner with Ben Jealous, who is joining the Sierra Club as our new executive director in 2023. Together, we'll continue to protect the future of our planet and strengthen our organization to aid in that fight more powerfully than ever.
As I read about our work from the treetop down to the interconnected network of mycelium, I was inspired by all the people who contributed to our shared accomplishments. I've always believed we can only win in our fight to protect the planet when we center the stories of those who have been most affected by the climate crisis.
I know there are challenges ahead, but seeing all of the work we accomplished collectively gives me hope. Community is a force for good, an experience I shared with my family and millions of Texans when we lost power for over a week during one of the coldest storms in memory. I saw first-hand that the climate crisis is at our doorstep and that it takes everyone pitching in to survive and build a world where we can all thrive.
I appreciate your resilience in a year filled with big wins and many struggles. And I want to thank our expansive community—850+ staff, 7,000+ volunteer leaders, and millions of members, donors, and supporters. With your commitment, we’ll continue to make progress. I’m confident we can harness the power of community, collaboration, and connection, and I look forward to a momentous year ahead.
