U.S. Mint and Governor to Launch California Quarter in Sacramento

UNITED STATES MINT, GOV. ARNOLD SCHWARZENEGGER & FIRST LADY MARIA SHRIVER TO LAUNCH CALIFORNIA QUARTER IN SACRAMENTO

What: Reporters are invited to join Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger, First Lady Maria Shriver and United States Mint Director Henrietta Holsman Fore as they launch the California quarter at the California State History Museum/State Archives Reference Room in Sacramento on Monday, January 31 at 11 a.m. PT. Space will be limited to accredited members of the news media and launch participants.

Following the event, from 12:00 noon- 2 p.m. PT, there will be a public quarter exchange at the Secretary of State/California State History Museum Courtyard in which bills and coins may be exchanged for rolls of California state quarters.

On Sunday evening, January 30, United States Mint Director Henrietta Holsman Fore will host a Coin Collectors’ Forum from 6:00 p.m.- 8 p.m. at the California State History Museum. The public is welcome.

The California quarter-dollar commemorative coin is the first quarter released in 2005 and the 31st in the United States Mint’s 50 State Quarters® Program. Gov. Schwarzenegger has declared Monday, January 31, 2005, “State Quarter Day in the Classroom.” California was admitted into the Union on September 9, 1850, becoming our Nation’s 31st State. The California quarter depicts naturalist and conservationist John Muir admiring Yosemite Valley’s Half Dome as a California condor soars overhead. The coin bears the inscriptions “California,” “John Muir,” “Yosemite Valley” and “1850.”
