192 total 14 pages of Muir quotes and 12 pages of photos, green leather-bound, 4" x 8.6", $12.95.
The John Muir Notebook
is a pocket-sized (4 x 0.8 x 6 inches) durable leather bound blank journal, with rounded corners, easy to stuff into a back pocket or a day pack yet resist wear-and-tear. Half the size of most blank journals, it resembles the actual size that John Muir often used on his excursions.
The cover of the notebook includes the title "John Muir Notebook" in gold leaf , together with a plain embossed signature of "John Muir." The color half-portrait of John Muir shown in the image at right is actually a thin cardboard sheet wrapping around the cover, with a Muir quote inside, which can be removed if desired. Similarly, the back cover has a removable wrap-around with the text shown at left, with a Muir quote on the inside.
A light-green ribbon place-marker is sewn into the binding.
The front and back end-papers contain full-page black and white photographs, on both sides, printed on sturdy paper. The first page, opposite a portrait of Muir, provides in small letters the text "This book belongs to," with a single line so you can write your name and much more on the page. The blank pages are thick enough to not bleed your writing onto the next page.
About a dozen quotes from John Muir, printed in artistic lettering, are interspersed throughout the blank pages along with about the same number of black-and-white photographs of Muir or scenes from Yosemite and other national parks. The quotes indicate which book or article the quote is taken from.
The John Muir Notebook includes a 5-page Introduction by J. Scott Donahue, which provides a brief biography of John Muir.
Donahue points out that the legacy of John Muir began with a notebook, and that he told us that the mountains, rivers, oceans, deserts, and plains are calling.
He poses the question: "What do they say to you?"
Other titles in the publisher's The Signature Notebook Series as of 2017 include Shakespeare, Jane Austen, Ernest Hemingway, Claude Monet, Mark Twain, John F. Kennedy, Alexander Hamilton, George Washington, Benjamin Franklin, Abraham Lincoln, and Thomas Jefferson.
