James Bryce
1838-1922
- British statesman,
jurist, author, member of Parliament, and ambassador to the United
States.
- In earlier life he was a notable mountain-climber, ascending Mount
Ararat in 1876. From 1899-1901 he was president of the British Alpine
Club.
- It took several
years for Bryce and Muir to meet, despite the attempts by both to
do so. While Bryce was ambassador, he finally met Muir at a dinner
in the San Francisco Bay Area.
