About the Song
Creation's Dawn was first inspired by the experience of a "Muir Trek" in the Canadian Rockies in the early 1990's. It is one of 11 songs on his recent CD of original music entitled Sure Cure and is also featured on the John Muir Tribute CD. In this song, Barry has adapted and set to music words from Muir's journal writings in an effort to express the spirit of Muir's life in song.

About Barry Hertz
Barry Hertz taught high school biology in Calgary, Alberta, Canada where he immigrated from South Dakota in the early 80's in response to a fascination he has felt since childhood for the Canadian wilderness. He was awarded as a 2003 Queen's University Faculty of Education Teaching Excellence Fellow.
While teaching or doing other work (Barry was also a beekeeper in northern Alberta and an environmental supervisor in Wyoming), he always kept his guitar close at hand. Whether playing in one of the many groups he has been part of over the years or humming and strumming alone on the back steps, music has been and is his "sure cure for the common cold."
Sadly, Barry Hertz died May 7, 2022.
His obituary recognizes that "His music reflects not only his gift as a writer, but also his fondness for the naturalist writings and poetry of authors such as Aldo Leopold, Charles Badger Clark, Edward Abbey, Henry David Thoreau, John Muir, and Rachel Carson."
