John Muir 1964 Maximum Card - Parks

John Muir 1964 First Day of Issue Maximum Card

This maximum card, postmarked on April 29, 1964, the first day of issue for the release of the 1964 John Muir commemorative postage stamp, also features other stamps relating to Muir's conservation efforts.

Just to the right of the John Muir stamp is the 1935 Yosemite stamp, commemorating Muir's campaign to establish Yosemite National Park. To its right is the 1958 Forest Conservation Stamp, which was designed by Rudolph Wendelin, the same designer as the Muir stamp. Below are stamps for two other national parks that Muir was instrumental in protecting: Grand Canyon and Mt. Rainier.
