North by Northwest with John Muir

presentation by Richard Fleck

Community College of Denver

My presentation "North by Northwest with John Muir" at the Muir Conference will be a slide show and talk which begins in Yellowstone National Park with references to Muir in Yellowstone and his observations in 1881. I then go to Mount Rainier with Muir's observations in 1888 and significance of this mountain to him. Then I proceed to Panhandle Alaska with my slides of glaciers and fjords and discuss the significance of coastal Alaska to Muir geologically and humanistically, especially with his growing interest in Tlingit cultures in 1879.
