The Big Trees Are Down

by Douglas Wood

This song celebrates the lives of great naturalist-conservationists, including besides Muir such luminaries as Henry David Thoreau, Aldo Leopold, Rachel Carson, and Sigurd Olsen, and calls upon each of us to be the ones to "hold the sky up, now the big trees are down."
"Who will love the land,
now the big trees are down?"

The song is just one of 21 songs in the album, Earth Songs (1985).
The entire album is an absolutely outstanding collection of songs with themes of ecology and the great outdoors. Click on the Earthsongs link above to visit Doug Wood's website for information about this and other albums.
