Abe Lincoln Totem in Alaska John Muir 1964 First Day Cover

The text reads:

"Abe Lincoln Totem in Alaska

A totem pole honoring ex-president Abraham Lincoln was erected by the Tlingit Indians at Tongas Island near the British Columbia border a few years after the purchase of Alaska from Russia. The original wooden figure is now at the State Museum at Juneau. A copy is in the Totem Park at Saxman, near Ketchikan."

Muir has subsequently been honored with a 32 cent postage stamp in 1998.
