Write the Forest Service Today
The Forest Service wants the public to weigh in with comments on its wild
forest protection plan. Timber industry lobbyists are already trying to stop or weaken
this initiative, so it is critical that we demonstrate broad public support for protecting
our wild forests. The first comment period ends on Dec. 20, so urgent action is necessary.
These public comments will help shape the final plan.
To take action:
Please write a letter or send the "One-Minute Activist" on page 8. Tell the
Forest Service that our national forests should be protected from logging and other
destructive activities. Tell the agency that you support a roadless-area protection policy
that:
applies to all national forest roadless areas of more than 1,000 acres -
including Alaska's Tongass and Chugach national forests;
provides permanent protection for all roadless areas from new road
construction, logging, mining, off-road vehicle use, oil and gas development and other
harmful activities;
protects roadless areas now rather than waiting for the forest planning
process.
