"John Muir - (1838-1914), explorer and writer, helped start wilderness preservation in the U.S. He was instrumental in establishing our first national park [Note: This is incorrect - Muir was instrumental in establishing Yosemite National Park in 1890, but the first National Park was Yellowstone in 1872, which Muir had no part in.] and founded the Sierra Club, an influential environmental organization. John Muir taught the importance of exploring, enjoying, and protecting our natural heritage.
