Annual JMMA Meeting and Dinner - 6:30 p.m. - Tuesday, May 7, 1996 -

This event, JMMA's formal 40th Birthday, will be held at the Masonic Hall in Martinez. Guest speakers will be Harold Wood and Harvey Chinn, with a planned visual display of "John Muir in Cyberspace." Highlights will include presentation of the Association's Conservation Award plus election and installation of Officers and Board. Dinner ticket, $15.

Traditional John Muir Birthday Celebration - All Day - Saturday, June 1, 1996

Taking a clue from the Queen of England who has her birth anniversary delayed a few weeks to ensure better odds for favorable weather, we have done likewise for the same reason, and so as not to conflict with the March for Parks being held on April 21 in Martinez and nationwide. The observance of John Muir's 158th birthday will be June 1, 1996. The St. Andrews Society is arranging its ever-popular Scottish program of pipers, dancers, et cetera.

"A Family Evening in the Park" Series Inaugural - 4:30 p.m. - Sunday, June 2, 1996

The inaugural evening of this new John Muir Memorial Association activity will feature noted playwright and actor Lee Stetson, direct from Yosemite National Park. His "bill of fare" is entitled,"the Best of John Muir" and will be presented in two 40 minute segments that evening. It will be after park hours permitting a small fee to be charged for admission.
