This First Day Cover features the First Day of Issue for the U.S. Flag stamp issued on November 29, 2016, and is postmarked on that date. The accompanying John Muir stamp is from the 1964 issue.

The cachet features a photo of Muir, with the silhouette of a typical Liberty Ship, and the text: "World War II Liberty Ships - SS JOHN MUIR - Delivered December 31, 1942 by Marinship Corp. Sausalito, Calif. The color printed cachet is #8198 designed by Alvin Eckert #9964, USCS.

There is another First Day Cover featuring the First Day of Issue for the Lady Liberty postage stamp issued April 8, 2011 with the same cachet.

Muir has subsequently been honored with a 32 cent postage stamp in 1998.
