Auction for America
From Nov. 26 through Dec. 16, you'll have the opportunity to bid on items ranging from a $1,000 Outings gift certificate to 2002 engagement calendars as the Sierra Club participates in eBay's Auction for America, a fund-raising effort for the victims, families and communities of the Sept. 11 attacks. You can find these items - and dozens more donated by the Club - at www.sierraclub.org/auction. You can also find out how to support the cause by donating your own household items for auction on eBay.
More Than Meets the Eye
James Lawrence uncovers a side of Los Angeles teaming with western ringneck snakes, golden eagles and coast horned lizards in his new book, "Wild L.A.," published by Sierra Club Books. He explores the natural history of Los Angeles, introducing the reader to hidden recreation spots, chronicling the paving of the city and explaining why outdoorsy Angelenos are optimistic. Along the way, Lawrence's book text is accompanied by colorful photographs of Pacific rattlesnakes, California's only native poisonous snake, giant coreopsis flowers in bloom above the ocean and many others. The new standard, an improvement over the 50 parts per billion 1942 standard, does not reach the 3 ppb standard supported by the Sierra Club. Read more about it.
